The Dawn Festival is a series of public artworks that present the current cultural voices of the moment across Burmese artists, bringing together a curated mix of approximately 20 art presentations.

The arts component will showcase Heritage to Cutting Edge Contemporary Burmese Art and is a collaboration between art practitioners such as commercial galleries, not-for-profit institutions/collectives, and Independent curator projects and artists.

HERITAGE – HISTORICAL CONTEXTUALISATION

  • The work of young artists enhances and highlights cultural and historical ties to Yangon.
  • Featuring Yangon’s significant historical excavation sites.
  • Contemporary Artist interventions like the photographs of Nge Lay, showing historical artworks and overlaying with images or contemporary interventions over historical sites to emulate an historical dig - as well as Mauritizo Catelan interventions in historical museums.

CUTTING EDGE CONTEMPORARY ART – POP & STREET ART INTERNATIONAL x YANGON

  • The Pop art aesthetic is cheerful and defiant and is easily accessible by the mainstream public. Having public murals with artists working in progress allows for interactivity.
  • Proposed Artists include – Popular International Artist L’Atlas (Jules Dedet) & Tanc Vao, who have done numerous commissioned works including the iconic Perrier bottle. These artists have travelled to many countries creating large scale public art walls and encouraging public intervention, they will interact with local Burmese street artists to create street and pop art works.
  • A curation of Burmese artworks in the pop / street aesthetic will be curated. Artists include: Myint Myint Tin, Nge Lay, Khin Zaw Latt.
