Endorsed by the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and with events broadcast on TrueVisions, Exotic Fishing Thailand is fast becoming the biggest of its type in Asia. The recently held Exotic Fishing Thailand Individual Open and the Exotic Fishing Thailand Team Challenge both attracted visitors from Thailand and beyond.
As Exotic Fishing Thailand is gearing up for a new season, excitement is building around the season’s event schedule. The recently held Exotic Fishing Thailand Individual Open saw 16 competitors compete for the largest total length of fish caught in a 10-hour window, while the Exotic Fishing Thailand Team Challenge comprised 16 teams of four.
Similarly, the up-coming 1.5 Million Baht Challenge, which runs from 1 November 2019 to 1 March 2020, is expected to attract fishing enthusiasts from all over Thailand. Fifty fish are tagged with prizes valued at over THB1.5 million and the competition is open to anyone for a THB1,000 fee in addition to the normal daily fishing ticket.
With SAT endorsement and broadcasting by TrueVisions, fishing in Thailand is gaining traction and recognition not only as a recreational activity for individuals, families and corporations alike, but as a sport with the potential to attract sports tourism.
Set among misty mountains about an hour’s drive north of Phuket International Airport, Exotic Fishing Thailand has one of Asia’s largest selections of exotic fish with more than 60 species up for catch, including giants such as Arapaima, which can weigh up to 135kg, Giant Siamese Carp over 60kg, Alligator Gar over 50kg and Mekong Catfish over 135kg.
The resort features a fish park for anglers and non anglers alike with two fish feeding ponds containing fish up to 50kg. There is also an emphasis on education with over 20 aquariums with fish from all over the world, along with explanations of origin and feeding and breeding habits.
Visitors can come for a daytrip or choose to stay in one of five mountain view bungalows. An additional 12 rooms as well as a swimming pool are underway.
