Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon returns to Laguna Phuket on 5-6 December 2020. One of the most popular mass participation events in the running calendar, the race attracts thousands of participants and spectators, including some of the biggest names in road running.
With five distances - Marathon, Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, 10.5km and 5km - as well as a 2km Kids’ Run, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon is for professionals and recreational runners alike. The event regularly attracts people from all over the world with the last couple of races welcoming participants from more than 60 countries. So popular is the event that for the past many years, it has been fully sold out months in advance.
Having grown immensely over the years, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon is now a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon, one of the biggest running events of the year. The race has been certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) for 14 consecutive years. Furthermore, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon won Best Amateur Sport Event in Thailand at SPIA Asia 2017 - Asia’s Sports Industry Awards & Conference.
A fun event for the entire family, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon will also feature a number of activities for children and adults alike. An expo gives participants and spectators an opportunity to explore the latest in running products and services, including running shoes, apparel, watches, sports gels, energy drinks and eyewear. On 5 December, there will be a pasta party for runners to fuel up - so-called carb-loading - before the start of the Marathon, Marathon Relay and Half Marathon distances the morning of 6 December.
Traditionally held during the low-season, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon helps local businesses by attracting thousands of visitors to Phuket when tourist numbers tend to be low. However, this year, due to the unforeseen circumstances resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the event is held during the island's high season and it is expected that the event will be able to raise additional funds towards the Laguna Phuket Foundation, a charity that supports educational and social development of local communities, marine and natural environmental conservation, and emergency relief.
