With a focus of bringing together international and local artists to connect, collaborate and create, The Dawn Festival is expected to become one of Southeast Asia’s leading arts festivals attracting people from all over the world.
More than 20,000 people are expected to descend on Yangon for the inaugural The Dawn Festival 2019 to enjoy a four-day programme of light, colour, art, music and dance. The festival will bring together renowned artists from around the world, as well as shine the light on some of Southeast Asia’s emerging talents.
The Dawn Festival coincides with the opening of the highly anticipated Rosewood Yangon, the official hotel of The Dawn Festival. Located on The Strand in the heart of the city’s historic district, Rosewood Yangon is perfectly positioned as the centre point of the festivities and in walking distance to some of Yangon’s most notable attractions.
The Dawn Festival is divided into three different disciplines: dance, music and visual arts. As well as showcasing international artists, the arts programme will feature a series of works featuring a spectrum of local artists, rising artists to the well-established who find inspiration in Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage, merging them with more contemporary styles to arrive at a dynamic interpretation of Myanmar today.
The festival will also feature a carefully curated dance programme, showing performances and workshops by internationally established local dancers. Some performances are multidisciplinary, incorporating aspects of dance, music, singing, comedy and drama.
The music programme will reach across several genres, including classical, traditional and pop from both local and international artists. The programme will also feature a Southeast Asian premiere, to be announced.
During the festival, Yangon is expected to come alive with various activities and exhibitions, curated walks where festival-goers can learn about various artists and the history of Yangon, a charity auction, a children’s programme and various social and networking events.
The Dawn Festival 2019 will highlight Yangon as one of Asia’s most enticing urban lifestyle destinations. The event will help position Myanmar not only as a diverse tourist destination but also as a new and upcoming destination for festivals and events across sectors such as arts, culture, lifestyle and entertainment.
