The Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sports Year 2025 campaign aims to attract 40 million foreign visitors and generate THB2.8 trillion in tourism revenue this year.
Sports tourism has long been on the radar of Thailand’s tourism and sports authorities as an attractive tourism segment, due to its ability to engage local communities as well as attract higher-spending individuals to the Kingdom.
Behind the campaign are Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), who launched the campaign in January. In addition, Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) will study the feasibility and value of implementing the campaign as well as hosting large, global-scale events.
2025 will see a number of world-class sport events take place in Thailand this year, starting with the 2025 season of MotoGP motorcycle racing. Buriram province will host the first race from 28 February to 2 March at Chang International Circuit, kicking off the series of races that will take place in 22 circuits across 18 countries.
The FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2025 will kick off in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Nakhon Ratchasima from 22 August to 7 September, with the final match being held at Hua Mak Indoor Stadium in Bangkok. And towards the end of the year, Thailand will host the 33rd SEA Games 2025 on 7-19 December with events taking place in Bangkok, Chonburi, Songkhla and Chiang Mai.
The ambition is not just to attract large-scale events in 2025. Towards the end of 2024, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced that the government was moving forward with conversations to bring an F1 event to Thailand, saying that hosting such an event would attract tourists, bring excitement and pave the way for city expansion and urban development.
Thailand is perfectly positioned to attract large, global-scale events. Tourism infrastructure is well developed in many parts of the country and many services represent excellent value-for-money. A relatively young population and world-renowned Thai hospitality further adds to the attraction.
