Thailand – The World's Next Superyacht Destination.

Located in the heart of Asia, with its beautiful coastline, diversity of destinations and good weather all year around, Thailand is perfectly positioned to become the next superyacht destination.

Thailand is uniquely positioned to become the world's next superyacht destination and the private and public sectors are joining in a concerted effort to promote the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to the international yachting clientele. The last decade has seen a significant increase in visiting yachts as well as yacht shows and rendezvous, attracting people from all over Asia and beyond.

The reasons for Thailand's rise as one of the premier yachting destinations in the world are manifold. The country's vast coastline and surrounding waters offer a unique diversity of destinations from Langkawi and the unexplored Mergui Archipelago in the West to the Gulf of Thailand in the East. In addition, an array of activities are available, including world-class scuba diving, natural wonders, outstanding golf courses and world-renowned hospitality. Furthermore, Thailand benefits from having good weather all year around, with alternating seasons from West to East, and given its location in the heart of Asia, the country offers great connectivity with several international airports.

One of the main drivers of the blooming yachting industry in Thailand is the commitment of both the private and the public sectors to promote and support the yachting industry. There is an emerging industry support infrastructure with first class facilities, marinas and services in place and the calendar is packed throughout the year with yachting and lifestyle events, which attracts increasing numbers of high net worth individuals from Thailand, elsewhere in Asia and further afield.

To show its support of promoting superyacht tourism in Thailand, the government in 2015 announced legislation to allow foreign-flagged superyachts to charter Thai waters. The move signalled Thailand's objective to promote luxury lifestyle in the country and attract high net worth individuals from abroad. Indeed, the superyacht industry poses significant revenue potential for the government. According to estimates by Verventia Pte Ltd., the organisers of Thailand Yacht Show and Singapore Yacht Show, Thailand could attract 200 visiting superyachts annually by 2020, which, if allowed to charter, have the potential to bring in in excess of US$4 million annually in VAT. More importantly, with provisioning and running costs together, each yacht may contribute as much as US$2 million directly into the local economy, Verventia Pte Ltd. estimates.
