The second edition of the AFC Beach Soccer Championship will take place in Pattaya from 7-17 March 2019. Organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the championship also acts as the qualification tournament for Asian teams to the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in November 2019.
Teams from all over Asia will battle it out in Pattaya on 7-17 March 2019 to win the AFC Beach Soccer Championship 2019, with the three medalists also earning a ticket to the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in November this year. The 15 teams include Afghanistan, Bahrain, China, defending champions Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Thailand and United Arab Emirates.
The tournament, which was first held in Malaysia in 2017, has quickly gained traction and will be broadcast to more than two million viewers in Asia and beyond. The unique style of football was formally created in 1992 and has become known and loved for its fast pace and the creativity of players.
The uneven soft-sand playing surface make beach soccer very different from normal soccer and calls for a greater degree of improvisation. A match is made up of three periods of 12 minutes, and with an average 11 goals scored per match, it’s a fast-paced and fun game to watch!
The Thai team currently sits at number 43 in the world ranking and is by many experts considered the top team in Southeast Asia. The team is highly motivated to build on its strong performance during the AFF Beach Soccer Championship in November 2018 when it went undefeated in the group games and lost in the final to Japan.
