DECEMBER 2022 / JANUARY 2023

We look back at 2022 and thank all our clients, sponsors and partners for their continued trust

The sponsorship industry saw a comeback in 2022 with many postponed events finally taking place, much to the joy of rights holders, brands and the public alike.

As Thailand and many parts of wider Asia slowly opened up, rights holders and brands were finally able to reconnect with their audiences as events were once again on.

At The Sponsorship Experts we have had one of our busiest years ever, with a slew of new opportunities on our rooster, as well as plenty of industry insight and research. We acquired ASN (Asia Sponsorship News), the leading market intelligence service for the sponsorship industry in Asia. The acquisition will add a news and insights component to The Sponsorship Experts and reinforce our position as the leading commercial sponsorship and partnership marketing consultancy in Southeast Asia.

Sports were once again one of our main focal points. We continued to work closely with the Sports Authority of Thailand to further sports events in the Kingdom. Over the year we also worked with a number of sports rights holders including Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, Gran Fondo New York, Phang Nga Triathlon, Supersports 10 Mile Run Thailand, Supersports Bangkok Half Marathon, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon, Tann Racing Connect and TRI-Factor. We were also pleased to be appointed by Volleyball World to manage commercial sponsorship and partnership marketing in Thailand for the Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

We also looked at the wider sports industry, diving into topics such as the politicising of sports sponsorship; how sport took a stand against Russian aggression in Ukraine; the good and the bad in the sponsorship industry post Covid-19; and how women’s sports is finally becoming a hot topic.

The sailing industry is also set for recovery. This year, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Kata Rocks Poker Run; Kata Rocks Superyacht Rendezvous and Thailand International Boat Show. We also took a look at the long history of regattas and boat shows in Thailand.

Influencers and network economies continue to play an important role in sponsorship and partnership marketing and this year we had the pleasure to work with several actors in the arena: Fando and JD Entertainment. We also have our own private influencer network that our clients, sponsors and partners can tap into.

Phuket continues to assert itself as one of the most innovative and forward-thinking regions in Thailand and beyond. We worked with PHIST (Phuket Hotels for Islands Sustaining Tourism) and Smart Island Phuket Electric Vehicle Expo, both of whom work towards a better and more sustainable path forward for this unique island. We also covered Thailand’s bid to host the 2028 Specialised Expo on Phuket and documented how the island is attracting more tech firms from across Asia and beyond.

In the non-sport category, we worked with Asia Pop 40; Dinner In The Sky; Online International Math Challenge; Thailand Health, Fitness and Wellness Expo and The Together Revolution. We also looked into the introduction of Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019), which has profound effects on how rights holders and brands process and store data.

We were also pleased to be appointed by BHIRAJ BURI Group. The appointment will see The Sponsorship Experts create The Sponsorship Playbook for BITEC BURI, an industry-first benchmarking tool setting the standard for effective sponsorship policy. The appointment also covers commercial sponsorship and partnership marketing for BEAT Active; BITEC BURI; BITEC Live and SAMA Garden and underscores the strength of the MICE industry in Thailand.

We continued work on our podcast and once again sold out of tickets to our popular training workshops, Sponsorship Part One and Part Two.

As we look ahead to 2023, we would like to say a sincere thank you to all our clients, sponsors, partners and wider stakeholders for a great past year. We wish everyone a festive holiday season and look forward to working with you in the new year.
