December 2016 / January 2017

A look back at some of the most exciting events of 2016
and a peek into what 2017 has in store.

2016 has been yet another successful year for the sponsorship industry in Asia and beyond.

The first six months of the year saw a massive uplift in sponsorship spend in Asia with content and sponsorship investments reaching USD5.3 billion, while the Olympic Games in Rio attracted billions of dollars worth of sponsorship spend in its own right. Several Thai athletes attended the event, including 20-year old Kamolwan Chanyim who became the first Thai woman to qualify for the Olympics in a Laser Radial sailboat.

The year also saw the return to Asia of a number of high profile yachting events, including the Singapore Yacht Show alongside the launch of its sister show the Thailand Yacht Show, and the introduction of a new license that allows foreign-flagged super yachts to charter in Thai waters was yet another boost for the thriving yachting industry in Asia.

Reflecting the success of the sporting industry in Asia was the inaugural SPIA Asia 2016 - Sports Industry Awards, which was held in Bangkok in October this year. More than 300 sports professionals from around the region attended a black tie awards ceremony to recognise and celebrate the many rights holders, marketing agencies, sports brands, events, organisations, and venue operators who work to better the industry.

2016 has also been a big year for The Sponsorship Experts. The beginning of the year saw the launch of our new website, followed by the introduction of Marketplace, a platform for rights holders to list their commercial sponsorship and partnership opportunities in order to reach some of Asia's most high profile brands and businesses.

We have also signed a number of high profile partnerships, including with 9 Worlds Co., Ltd. for the inaugural Rock ‘N’ Rides FMX Thailand 2017, as well as with Verventia Pte. Ltd. for their Singapore and Thailand Yacht Shows 2017. This year we also launched our series of strategic alliances with key service providers, including Bamboo Labs, Infinity Communications and Vivaldi Integrated Public Relations. The alliances are designed to give the clients of Paul Poole (South East Asia) Co., Ltd. access to the best specialists in the market.

With all this to celebrate we are looking forward to 2017, which promises to be lined with even more exciting events. On the food and beverage front Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2017 will return to Bangkok in February following a successful event in 2016, and in March Phuket will launch its first food and wine festival with the inaugural Phuket Food and Wine 2017. More than 4,000 food and wine loving visitors and more than 80 participants from Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, United States and the United Kingdom are expected to attend the event, showcasing the best in gourmet cuisine, wines, premium beers, spirits and luxury kitchen products and services.

2017 will also see a number of events return to Asia and new ones being introduced. Commercial sponsorship and partnership opportunities are available for the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, AMA Events, Asia Pacific Cigar, Whisky and Luxury Lifestyle Expo, Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, Bangkok International Rugby Tens, Banking and Finance Summit, Blacklight Run, Bubble Run, Caliente! Latin Music Festival Bangkok, Digi.travel Thailand International Conference and Expo, FIT Awards Asia, Foam Glow, IBFA World Cup Thailand, Laguna Phuket Marathon, Magners International Comedy Festival, Marengo Equestrian Shows By Sonia Couling, Mediapro Asia - Commercial Assets centred around LaLiga, MENA Golf Tour Thailand, MP & Silva - Sports Media Rights, My Mate Nate, Phuket Food and Wine, Rock ’N’ Rides FMX Thailand, Saraburi TRU Football Club, Séwé Sport de San-Pédro.
