The organiser of TJ's True South 2018, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, is scheduled to speak at the third edition of SPIA Asia - Asia’s Sports Industry Awards and Conference 2017.
It is one of the most ambitious and high risk endeavours of any extreme sports team in Thailand: the 1,200 kilometres journey from Union Glacier in Antarctica to the South Pole. The journey is done in temperatures below minus 45 degrees Celsius and only 19 countries in the world have succeeded so far. Nonetheless, it is the aim of Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Executive Vice President of Thai Summit Group, to select a team of 10 Thai nationals to complete the journey and place the Thai flag on the South Pole.
Not only will the journey mark a historic success for Thailand as a country – the process through which the final 10 participants are selected is a prime example of how mass participation sporting events are increasing in both size and popularity. The 10 finalists will have been boiled down from more than 15,000 applicants who will go through a rigid selection process of events and challenges such as extreme races, bootcamps and workshops, all of which are broadcast on Thai TV. As such, TJ's True South 2018 truly has the ability to capture the imagination of the entire country.
TJ's True South 2018 is also engaging the local business community with the 1200KM Club - Expedition Support Team, which invites individuals, companies and institutions to support the initiative by owning sections of the 1,200 kilometres journey from Union Glacier in Antarctica to the South Pole. By buying sections of the journey, individuals, companies and institutions buy various marketing rights and the opportunity to engage with the event on a more commercial level.
Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit will speak at the two-day SPIA Asia - Asia’s Sports Industry Awards and Conference 2017, which will take place on 6-7 November 2017 at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, sharing insights into the planning and execution of one of Thailand's most exciting mass participation sporting events to date. TJ's True South 2018 will also have a booth at the conference for anyone interested in knowing more about the project.
